It has been a huge belief that due to global warming, the ice caps present over arctic and Antarctic would melt in such a fast rate that soon earth would be covered with water. Empire States Building would be underwater but I doubt where Burj Dubai would be.

It was not a believe right… we learned about it in school that water level increase with the rise in temperature. But what if I said it was all a crazy Myth….

WHAT???
Yes, you heard it right, the legend that sea level increases as ice melt is a huge little lie. Ym! I will explain.

Why Do I say Water Level never Increases?

I say this because of a curious principle given by Archimedes.
Now as I was saying, Archimedes principle (or simple ‘Principle of Floatation’) proves water level never increase.
Hey! But what is Archimedes Principle?
Oh! It is really a very simple one. It states that:
Weight of a Floating Body is equal to the weight of the liquid displaced by its submerged part.

Let’s take a small Example:
Let’s imagine some guests are about to arrive, so you take over the task of making cool drinks. And you successfully completes your job by putting the last ice cube (For I never know a cool drink without a ice cube). Congratulations!
Ok right?
Its after something you realize that all you glasses are broken last night. So your high speed brain gets an idea of using your lab’s beaker (You won’t really do that anyway.).
………….

After sometimes, your guests arrive and you serve them a cool drink (Pray God they must not find it is a beaker)
Those guests are soooo busy in talking with you and your family members that they forget to drink the Drink.
But your eyes are so fixed in those Drinks that you observe something.
The volume of the Drink which showed 250 ml with a ice shows the same 250 ml after those ice melts.

So how did that happen?
I will explain you.

When an ice cube is displaced on the Drink, the drink level increase like the object do in the image. The weight of this increased volume of the Drink is as same as the weight of the ice cube. Thus if the ice melt, the volume of the melted ice( now water) is equal to the volume of the Drink in the raised level.

That’s it. It is the same that happens in these ice bergs. When the bergs melt, as a result the volume of the berg which is now melted equals the volume of the raised water. Hence Water level never change due to ice melt in arctic and Antarctic.

WAIT…WAIT….WAIT…
Did I say ‘will never change?’, sorry then the water level will increase, but not due to ice melt, but due to the thermal expansion of water itself… but that's not are topic right?
So no more waiting.  If you like my article please LIKE the post below.
